Part of Dallas Loses Power After Underground Fire

Power was knocked out in the west end of downtown Dallas for about an hour Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in an electrical vault.

Firefighters responded to the 1100 block of Wood Street at about 6:55 a.m. and found smoke coming from a manhole. Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said the smoke was coming from an arcing underground transformer.

Oncor officials arrived shortly after, shut off power to the area and began repairs. Authorities said they blocked off the area between Griffin, Young and Commerce streets during repairs.

By 9 a.m. all power had been restored, according to Oncor.

Evans said the incident was the third that Dallas firefighters responded to within the last few weeks.

NBC 5's Anthony Kiekow contributed to this report.
