Pair Accused of Killing Abilene Officer Texted, Emailed Him

Investigators believe a West Texas couple charged with killing an Abilene police officer had texted and emailed with him prior to the slaying.

Court documents released Tuesday indicate Violet Walter told authorities that she and her husband, Phillip Walter, had communicated with Officer Don Allen. The search warrant affidavits were for the couple's cellphones.

The Walters remained in jail Wednesday on murder charges, with bond at $500,000 each.

Allen's body was discovered Aug. 31 in his Clyde home by his fiance. Previously released affidavits indicate Allen was bound by his hands and feet. Police believe the cause of death was strangulation. Autopsy results are pending.

Authorities have not released a possible motive for the slaying. Abilene police did not immediately return a message Wednesday.
