Officer and Bus Driver Injured in Overnight Accident

Accident happened at U.S. 175 near Metropolitan Avenue

A Dallas police officer and tour bus driver were injured in an overnight accident in the 3500 block of U.S. 175 in Dallas.

Dallas police said at around 2:30 a.m. Officer Kyle Louster came across a 20 passenger tour bus stalled in the southbound center lane of the  the S.M. Wright Freeway.

Louster left the emergency lights on his marked cruiser parked behind the bus and according to police as he was talking to the tour bus driver, a maroon Chevrolet pickup truck collided with the squad car.

Police said the squad car hit the tour bus with enough force to cause the bus to veer to the left hitting the officer and the tour bus driver who were standing beside the bus.

Louster and the tour bus driver were taken to Baylor Hospital. Police said Louster suffered severe injuries to his left leg and is still being treated at the hospital. The tour bus driver also suffered severe injured to his left leg and hip and had to undergo surgery, police has no information on his condition Saturday morning.

The driver of the pickup was not injured and police said he was tested for DWI but was found not to be intoxicated. According to the initial investigation police said they believe fatigue played a role in the accident. No arrests were made.

The passengers of the tour bus were standing on the side of the road when the accident occurred, police reported none were injured.
