A Texas angler appears to have set a new record for the largest catfish caught in Lake Tawakoni using a rod and reel.
Paul Miles sent an email to NBC 5 letting us know that his brother Danny caught a whopper of a fish Thursday.
According to Miles, his brother caught an 82-pound, 51-inch Blue Catfish with a 28-inch girth on March 1 at Lake Tawakoni. The catch breaks the record for the largest caught at that lake by more than 8 pounds.
Miles, who comes from a family of record-setting anglers, works for the Carrollton post office. His brother Paul was quick to point out that Danny not only broke the lake record, but the family-record as well.
A Texas Game Warden said the previous record at Lake Tawakoni was a 73.7-pound, 50-inch long catfish caught on Jan. 22, 2010. They are now in the process of verifying Miles' catch and adding it to the record book.
