Morning Rain, Possibly Severe Afternoon Storms Affect North Texas

Scattered showers are possible Friday morning with a chance for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are possible and expected from 2 to 7 p.m.

Morning thunderstorms affect the northern areas of North Texas Friday, but severe storms will be more widespread by the afternoon.

Numerous storms will affect north Texas from afternoon into evening Friday, with severe weather possible.

Some storms will be capable of large hail, damaging winds and possibly tornadoes, according to NBC 5 meteorologist Grant Johnston.

The highest chance for severe weather occurs from 4 to 7 p.m.

Reporter Jeff Smith provides an update on Dallas road conditions as he heads toward the scene of a wreck involving a semitrailer.

The National Weather Service issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Collin, Denton and Wise counties that expired at 7:15 a.m. Heavy rain began falling on the area just after 5 a.m. with some lightning strikes reported. NWS officials said rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour would cause flooding.

Officials reminded residents to not drive across roadways covered with water.
