Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Far East Dallas that began as a carjacking in Mesquite. NBC 5’s Alanna Quillen has the details.

Police are investigating an incident that began as a carjacking in Mesquite and ended in a shooting at a Dallas apartment complex.

According to Mesquite police, officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress in the 2600 Block of John West Road at the Watermark Apartments, near La Prada and I-30, just after 10 p.m. on Thursday night.

Police said the caller told officers that he was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects and that his vehicle was taken.

At approximately 11:08 p.m., a Mesquite police officer on routine patrol spotted the victim’s stolen vehicle in a nearby area, police said.

According to police, officers attempted to stop the vehicle at which point the suspects fled and the officers gave chase.

Police said the pursuit ended in the 2600 block of John West Road when the suspect vehicle collided with a garage inside the Treymore Eastfield Apartments, just across the street from the original carjacking location.

Two suspects fled on foot from the vehicle, and police officers chased them, police said.

According to police, while officers were pursuing the suspects on foot, an officer perceived a deadly threat from one of the suspects and fired his service weapon at the suspect.

Police said they do not know if the suspect was struck by gunfire, but both suspects continued running after the shooting.

No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident, and no arrests have been made at this time, police said.

The involved officer has been with the Mesquite Police Department for four years.

Because the officer-involved shooting occurred within Dallas city limits, even though it’s just across the street from the carjacking scene in Mesquite, Mesquite police are investigating the carjacking while Dallas police are investigating the shooting.

Investigators from the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene and will conduct a separate and independent investigation.
