A four-alarm apartment fire that destroyed several units and left others uninhabitable Monday in North Dallas was accidental in nature, officials say. [[389544771,R]]
A little after 6 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a 911 call for a structure fire at the Landmark at Rosewood Apartments, located at 13250 Emily Road, near the intersection of Interstate 635 and Interstate 75.
The call came from someone in a neighboring business who could see an apartment building on fire from his window. The fire was seen first afflicting the second and third floors of the three-story apartment building. The fire quickly breached the roof of the building that then required a four-alarm response that needed added manpower.
Twenty-three of the 24 units in the building were occupied, but the exact number of displaced residents was not immediately known. Several units of the units not affected by the fire itself still sustained smoke and water damage from the effort to extinguish the flames.
The American Red Cross is assisting those who were in need of housing.
Dallas Fire-Rescue determined that the fire began in the exterior wall of the chimney chase outside of a second-floor unit. Exactly how the fire started is not yet known. The occupant left home about an hour before the fire began and noticed nothing out of the ordinary, officials said Tuesday.
