Arlington police said 43-year-old Rick Sells was shot while trying to break up a fight after the Dallas Cowboys lost to the New England Patriots.

Sells remained in critical condition until his family took him off life support Wednesday.

Victoria Gunning, who identified herself to NBC 5 as Sells' sister, said her brother underwent three major surgeries, but did not appear to be getting better.

"Today, my mother and his family are going to go say our final goodbyes to the greatest man I've ever known," Gunning said Wednesday. "We're going to sign the donor papers so that his beautiful heart and organs will live on through others. We just wanted to say thank you for your love, support and prayers."

Sells was recently engaged. He planned to marry his fiancee — who is pregnant with a little girl — in November.

Marvin Rodriguez, 28, of Dallas is currently in jail facing charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's being held on a $200,000 bond. It's not clear if he has an attorney.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help his fiancee and his family.
