Man Paralyzed by '76 Davis Mansion Shootings Dies at 64

Gus "Bubba" Gavrel Jr., who was shot and left paralyzed in the 1976 shootings at the Fort Worth mansion of oil millionaire T. Cullen Davis that left two dead, has himself died at age 64.

A statement issued Monday by the Greenwood Funeral Home says Gavrel died Thursday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday.

Killed in the Aug. 2, 1976, shootings were Andrea Wilborn, Davis' 12-year-old stepdaughter, and Stan Farr, the 20-year-old boyfriend of Davis' estranged wife, Priscilla Davis. Priscilla Davis and Gravel also were wounded, with Gavrel being left paralyzed from the waist down.

Gavrel identified Davis as the gunman, but Davis was tried twice on a capital murder charge before he was acquitted. Davis later paid Gavrel a settlement for his injuries.
