Arlington police said DNA evidence helped them make an arrest in connection with the deaths of a married couple in 2012.
On June 10, 2012, officers responded to a welfare check of two residents who lived at a home in the 3600 block of Waverly Drive and found then-72-year-old Long Nguyen and then-63-year-old Huong Ly dead. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner ruled the deaths as homicide.
During the crime scene processing, police said detectives recovered DNA evidence from what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette found at the scene. The sample was entered into the Combined DNA Index System.
More than three years later, police said they were notified of a possible DNA match in the case. The match β 20-year-old Willie Guillory β was located and arrested for a parole violation. Guillory was 16 years old at the time of the offense.
Police said they obtained a warrant for Guillory's saliva for comparison. Detectives were notified the sample was a match Nov. 2.
Guillory was charged with capital murder Tuesday, according to police. He remains in the Tarrant County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
"The meticulous crime scene processing that occurred highlights how important every little detail is in a significant crime scene and the role of DNA testing that has afforded us this opportunity to bring much needed closure to the victim's family," Arlington Police Department Chief Will Johnson said.
