Ellis County officials have arrested one person in connection with the fatal shooting of Evette Marie Quezada.
Quezada was in a car with her brother, the driver and another man, identified by police as 30-year-old Frank "Frankie" Ortiz, when she was shot once in the head just before 2:30 a.m. on the 100 block of Newton Road in Ferris.
When police arrived they found Quezada dead and her brother suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand. Both of the men were hospitalized for treatment, but the extent of Ortiz's injury was not known.
After talking with witnesses and gathering evidence, investigators arrested Ortiz and charged him with Quezada's murder.
He is currently being held on $1 million bond.
Quezada's brother, whose name has not yet been released, is in stable condition and is expected to fully recover.
Officials have not revealed a motive or any further circumstances surrounding the shooting.
