A man was injured when he fled from officers and crashed on Interstate 20 in Weatherford early Monday morning, according to police.
Weatherford police said they responded to a call about an armed suicidal person in the 2100 block of Holly Oaks Lane at 1:27 a.m. Before officers arrived, the 23-year-old man left the scene in a maroon Dodge pickup truck threatening to harm himself.
Officers found the vehicle near U.S. 180 and Lakeshore Drive and tried to pull the driver over, according to Weatherford Police Department Sgt. Wendy Field. The driver refused to stop, heading east on I-20.[[298745701,C]]
Police said a brief chase continued until the driver struck a guardrail and cement pillar near Farm-to-Market Road 1187. Authorities reopened I-20 after shutting it down for several hours.
The driver was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital with minor injuries.
Field said the incident is still currently under investigation and criminal charges are pending.
