A mother led police on an hourlong chase with her two children in the car through several counties Wednesday afternoon.
The chase began near Wilmer when Ellis County officials attempted to stop Scarlett Gorden, 28, at about 3 p.m.
The Navarro County Sheriff's Office said Gorden's mother earlier called 911 to report that Gordon had taken the children without permission and that she was concerned for their safety.
The grandmother told authorities she has custody of the 3-year-old and 5-year-old.
Police chased Gorden in a silver 1995 Honda through Ellis, Dallas and Collin counties on U.S. 75, the George Bush Turnpike, the Dallas North Tollway and state Highway 121.
The pursuit came to an end in Plano. (Watch raw video of the end of the chase.)
Officers deployed stop sticks when Gorden was forced to slow down in traffic in a construction zone near the Legacy Drive exit. Gorden exited at Spring Creek Parkway, stopped and surrendered without further incident.
Speeds in the chase reached higher than 100 mph and weaved through traffic. Gorden side-swiped another vehicle during the chase and traveled on shoulders, grassy areas and service lanes.
Police said officers found a full can of gas in the backseat of the vehicle. Police said Gorden told them she was traveling and did not want to run out of gas.
According to a deputy at the Dallas County jail, Gorden has a cast on her right leg. She told him she broke her leg jumping off the roof of her mother's barn.
She was out on bond after she was arrested on numerous charges July 1, including drug and forgery charges. Gorden was released from the Denton County jail last week, and a hearing for those charges is scheduled for August.
Gorden was also arrested in May by Dallas marshals in connection with unpaid tickets and was released from custody that same afternoon.
The children are in Child Protective Services custody. Dallas County deputies said the children were in good spirits.
