Large Fire Damages Dallas Apartment Complex

Apartment complex building catches fire for the second time this year.

Dallas-Fire Rescue tapped out a 4-alarm fire at an apartment complex that is under construction Wednesday afternoon.

Flames broke out at the Sylvan Thirty Lofts in the 700 block of Fort Worth Avenue just after noon on Wednesday.

The building is a residential and commercial development consisting of a total of five floors. The first floor is commercial and the top four floors are residential.

DFR spokesman Jason Evans said that while a small number of residents occupy units within the complex, no one lives in the building involved in the fire.

Investigators determined the fire began as a result of welding that was being conducted within the walls of a residential unit.

No injuries were reported.

Officials said at least 64 units were directly affected by the fire and most of the units in the building sustained some smoke damage,

This is the second time there has been a fire at this building. The first fire happened in March. No one was injured.
