A mistrial has been declared in the case of Dallas County Constable Derick Evans.
With the jurors saying they are "hopelessly deadlocked" after deliberating for about 7 hours, State District Judge Tracy Holmes had no other option but to declare the mistrial.
Evans is accused of engaging in organized crime by holding a raffle that benefited his re-election campaign -- which is illegal according to Texas state law.
The court coordinator confirmed the jury was locked at 7-5 favoring a guilty verdict.
The indictment against Evans stands and he will be tried again in the spring. A tentative court date has been set for April.
