The westbound lanes of Interstate 30 over Lake Ray Hubbard are closed Wednesday afternoon following reports of a police chase that ended with gunfire.

The Rockwall County Sheriff's Office said deputies were involved in a pursuit that ended near Dalrock Road. It was there, the sheriff's office said, that deputies were involved in a shooting with a driver.

NBC 5 has learned the driver of the SUV was shot and was transported to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition. No other injuries were reported, including to any of the deputies.

A white SUV was visible at the scene with dozens of apparent bullet holes on the windshield, driver's side, and tailgate. Officials have not said if any of the bullet holes came from the deputies and they have not released any further information about the driver or what led to the gunfire.

The sheriff's office said the investigation into the shooting was being handed over to the Texas Rangers.

As of 6:15 p.m., the westbound lanes of I-30 remain closed near Dalrock and traffic is backed up into Rockwall.
