Fort Worth police said an officer was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Highway 287 early Saturday morning with a College Station man suspected of kidnapping and killing his former girlfriend's mother.
Patrol officers recognized the Ford Explorer that Stanley Wayne Robertson was believed to be driving and began pursuing him after he refused to pull over.
College Station police had advised Fort Worth police that Robertson, 42, might be in the Fort Worth area. Police said Robertson had sent a text message to a friend on Friday saying he had kidnapped the mother of his former girlfriend.
Fort Worth police found the body of Anne Toliver, 59, behind a shopping center on Camp Bowie Boulevard, west of downtown Fort Worth, before 5 a.m.
Police said Robertson said in a text message that he drove off with Toliver from a College Station Walmart and stabbed her.
The Tarrant County medical examiner confirmed that Toliver was stabbed, but has not released a cause of death. An autospy is scheduled for Sunday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Police said Robertson crashed head-on into an officer's cruiser near Rosedale Street after he turned around on Highway 287 during the pursuit. The officer pulled over on the shoulder after a police helicopter that was part of the pursuit saw Robertson turn around, police said.

"At that point, the suspect vehicle came northbound in the southbound lanes at a high rate of speed and basically drove right at the officer that was pulled over on the shoulder and hit him head on," Sgt. Pedro Criado said.
The officer's cruiser burst into flames, police said. Investigators have not said if the officer was burned.
Both the officer and Robertson remained hospitalized Saturday night.
Police said Robertson was alone in his vehicle. After the fiery crash on Highway 287, police returned to the area where patrol officers had first spotted him. A police helicopter then saw Toliver's body in a parking lot.
College Station police said Robertson had gone into a Walmart in College Station with Toliver's son on Friday night while she waited in the car. Robertson told the victim's son he had forgotten something, went back to the vehicle and left with Toliver, police said.
Investigators learned Robertson was on his way to the Dallas/Fort Worth area after negotiators made contact with him on his cell phone, College Station police said.
Robertson faces a capital murder charge in connection with Toliver's death. College Station police have charged him with aggravated kidnapping.
He was arrested in July on suspicion of assaulting his former girlfriend, Tammy Renee Toliver, and of threatening to kill her with a kitchen knife. He was charged with aggravated assault of a family member and was released from the Brazos County jail on Aug. 8.
Robertson also pleaded guilty in 2009 to driving while intoxicated.
The Fort Worth officer injured in the crash has served on the force for more than three years. The officer, whose name has not been released, was in serious condition at a Fort Worth hospital late Saturday night, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
