A 16-year-old in Texas has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the overnight slayings of his parents.
Frisco police said they received a call of shots fired in the 12400 block of Shepherds Hill Lane at about 2 a.m.
When officers arrived they found a man and a woman fatally shot inside the home. Benito Valdez, a police spokesman, said others in the home at the time of the shooting were not harmed.
The victims were identified as 48-year-old Ryan Callens and 49-year-old Maria Elena Callens.
The couple's 16-year-old child was arrested at the home and transported to the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center.
As neighbors look past the yellow crime scene tape, they remember the family and teen who called this place home for the last several years.
"Like, I remember I was like, 'Hey do you want to play outside?' and it just like we started hanging out and that's how it all started,'" recalls neighbor Natalie Benitez.
Neighbors said the teen was homeschooled and as the years passed he had grown distant from his neighborhood friends but had never shown signs of aggression or badmouthed them, neighbors said.
"He didn't say anything, like, bad about them. He didn't, like, show any aggression or hatred towards [sic] them," Benitez said.
