Fort Worth Officers Save Man From Burning Car

the Fort Worth police chief honored several officers after they pulled a man from a burning SUV along Loop 820 and Marine Creek Parkway early Thursday morning.

Three Fort Worth police officers are being called heroes after rescuing a driver from a burning vehicle early Thursday morning.

The crash happened at 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Loop 820 and Marine Creek Parkway in North Fort Worth.

Police said a man was driving his vehicle westbound on 820 when he lost control, hit a guardrail and then flipped onto an embankment below.

When responding officers got to the scene, they found the man trapped inside his overturned vehicle. The vehicle had caught fire.

The three officers, who have been identified at Holt, Proffitt and Guffey, were able to pull the man out of his car through the windshield.

A civilian who was doing ride-along with an officer got a fire extinguisher and used it to keep the fire back as the police officers rescued the driver.

“These officers conducted themselves admirably, and without hesitation, to rescue the trapped driver,” said Fort Worth Police Cpl. Tracey Knight, in a prepared statement.

The driver was sent to the hospital.  His condition is not known.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
