The rain that caused flood problems in Denton County and elsewhere in North Texas are now a distant memory for many, but the mess it left behind remains a big issue.
Flood waters continue to wash over spots on Shady Shores Road and Old Alton Road south of Denton.
County Commissioner Andy Eads said the water on those roads is likely to linger until levels lower in Lewisville Lake. Eads said so far that's been a slow process as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has had to hold back releasing too much from there and Grapevine Lake in order to avoid flooding parts of Carrollton and Dallas County again.
That's also kept the county from learning exactly what damage the water may have done to those stretches, said Eads.
The county has already identified several spots on the roads that are now listed as "permanent closures" in need of repair due to flooding. One of the largest is a washout of Oliver Creek Road near Justin.
At this point there is no time line for Shady Shores or Old Alton, but neighbors fear it could be at least late August before the pavement in some places finally dries.
