First Woman Elected to Lead Dallas County GOP Dies at 47

Missy Shorey, the first woman elected to lead the Dallas County Republican Party, died Tuesday night at age 47.

Shorey, who lived in Lake Highlands, was elected chairwoman of the county GOP party in November 2017.

Her husband Marc Himelhoch wrote in a Facebook post that Shorey "passed unexpectedly" on Tuesday.[[509010171,C]]

Congressman Lance Gooden (R-TX) released the following statement on the passing of Missy Shorey:

“I am greatly saddened by the sudden passing of my friend Missy Shorey. Missy was a tireless fighter for Dallas County and the Republican Party, and no one worked harder to help elect Republicans to local office in Dallas County and beyond. She was a prominent and distinguished voice for activists, voters, and the citizens of Dallas County. Her loss will be felt by all.”

Wednesday night, the Dallas County Republican Party released the following statement on the passing of Missy Shorey:

"The Dallas County Republican Party is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our Chairwoman Missy Shorey. We send our condolences to her husband Marc, and all of her family and friends.
Throughout the day, we have seen numerous tributes to our fearless leader. Many of them calling her, “tireless,” “passionate,” “driven,” “loyal,” “kind,” “dedicated,” “hard-working,” and “a force to be reckoned with.” Missy embodied all of these traits and more.Being elected as DCRP’s first Chairwoman might have caused some to tread lightly into their role, but not Missy. She embraced it fully from the beginning and fulfilled it with true grace and vigor. She was a tireless champion for the Party, its candidates, and mission.
Missy had an infectious spirit that inspired many. We are grateful for the blessing we have had to know her and to work with her, and even more importantly, to call her a friend.
We will mourn this loss deeply for many, many, many days to come, and we ask that you join us in keeping Marc and Missy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers."
