Fort Worth's Fourth was delayed Thursday night after a grass fire was sparked at the huge Independence Day celebration on the banks of the Trinity River.
NBC 5 has learned many of the shells did not fully burn out before hitting the ground, the hot embers caused some small grass fires.
One of the fires began burning too close to unexploded fireworks so the show was temporarily shut down.
Firefighters put the fire out and the show resumed after about a 10 minute delay. No one was injured.
The professional company behind Fort Worth's Fourth fireworks show told NBC 5 he's never shut down a show before for safety concerns, but it had to be done.
Firefighters were on the scene Friday morning looking for any remaining embers.
