Fire Rips Through Vacant Fort Worth Furniture Store

A fire Tuesday night ripped through the old Hoover Furniture store near the Fort Worth Stockyards.

Fort Worth firefighters spent Tuesday night battling a fire at a vacant furniture store.

Firefighters were called to the old Hoover Furniture store on the 400 block of West Central Avenue near the Stockyards shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Crews got there 90 seconds after the call and found flames and smoke pouring from the vacant building.

At one point firefighters were backed off and fought the fire from the outside rather than risk going inside the deteriorating structure.

The fire was under control by 11:30 p.m. but firefighters continued putting out hot spots Wednesday morning.

The search for the cause of the fire continues.

In all, 30 fire units and 87 fire personnel responded to the fire.
