Ex-Dallas Vice Detective Gets 18-Month Sentence

A federal judge has sentenced a former Dallas vice detective to 1 1/2 years in prison for passing unauthorized tips about police raids and investigations into prostitution.

A jury found Jose Luis Bedoy guilty in October of all four counts of an indictment alleging obstruction of justice. The convictions carried potential penalties totaling 70 years in prison and $1 million in fines.

U.S. District Judge Barbara Lynn also fined Bedoy $25,000.

Trial evidence showed Bedoy began a sexual relationship with someone authorities say is a prostitute and giving her "law enforcement-sensitive information" about raids.

Police in Coppell, a Dallas suburb, determined earlier this year that he had tipped off a raid.

The FBI began investigating.
