Health officials in Denton County confirmed Friday their eighth flu-related death of the season.

Not much is known about the patient other than that she was a female in her 40s with underlying health conditions and that she had not been vaccinated this season.

The woman's death took place last week between Feb. 2 and Feb. 8. As per usual, further information about the woman will not be released due to patient privacy.

The county health department has been out of shots for weeks, but it's health director recommends still getting one.

At a local Lewisville clinic, a doctor told NBC 5 the flu is still prevalent even though we've passed the peak of the season.

"We are still seeing patients every day, actually, but a couple of weeks back we had patients more, like every day, two or three, now we see once a day'" said Dr. Jalil Khan, with Pri-Med Care.

Khan adds many of the patients are in the age range of the latest victims.

"It was you use to see quite a bit of younger population or older population, now we are seeing more of middle-aged population having the flu. It's getting more prevalent, that's what it is most likely," said Khan.

As of this writing, there have been 68 flu-related deaths in North Texas including 42 in Dallas County, eight in Tarrant County, eight in Denton County, seven in Collin County, and one each in Hunt, Hood and Wise counties.

NBC 5's Brian Scott contributed to this report.
