Duncanville Superintendent Sends Message to Dress Code Disruptors

Duncanville’s superintendent sent a simple message to students; there are better ways to get your point across than deliberately breaking the rules.

Duncanville Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Alfred Ray posted a YouTube video as a response to the disruptions at Duncanville High School this week regarding the dress code.

His message to students was simple; there are better ways to get your point across than deliberately breaking the rules.

Instead of protesting, Ray encourages students to come express their concerns with him during a meeting at the high school on Tuesday, May 20 at 3:15 p.m. in the East Seminar Room.

A similar meeting is planned in the middle schools, according to Ray.

He said students should also talk to the school board at its next meeting on Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m.

The school district left an automated phone message for parents on Thursday night to talk to their children about following the rules.

At least eight police cruisers were parked outside the school when NBC 5 reporters left the scene.

Rumors spread among students that some students were planning on breaking dress code again on Friday, protesting at lunch, or throwing eggs at teachers' cars. So far, none of those incidents have occurred.

Students we talked to said they want to be able to express themselves and not have to follow the dress code. Some are also upset that the school chose to crack down on the dress code with just a couple weeks remaining in the school year.

Ray said about 200 students, which is about 5 percent of the school's population, have violated the dress code this week.

He also denied that Thursday's disturbance in the cafeteria involving 20 - 30 students was about the dress code.
