Students and faculty were evacuated from Dowell Middle School in McKinney due to a gas leak Wednesday morning.
According to the district, more than 1,000 students and faculty were taken to nearby Boyd High School as a precaution.
In a statement released to the media Wednesday, the district said "the gas leak was not a result of the construction currently taking place at the school, and district officials are currently addressing the issue."
At about 10 a.m. officials with the school tweeted that the gas leak was addressed and that it was safe for students to return to class.
