One man is dead after being hit after he took photos of a different crash on the side of Interstate 35E in Dallas.

Deputies responded to the crash just before 3 a.m. on I-35E near Market Center in Dallas. The 27-year-old male victim, identified as Ahmad S. Shehata, was killed after he was hit by another vehicle.

Detective Raul Reyna of the Dallas County Sheriff's Office said Shehata sideswiped a vehicle that was involved in a previous crash on the side of I-35E. Reyna said Shehata got out of his Honda to take photos of the damage and talk to the other drivers.

Reyna said Shehata was a student at UT-Southwestern Medical Center, however a spokesperson for school told NBC 5 Saturday that the man was neither a current student or employee.

Sunday, UT-Southwestern confirmed Shehata had attended classes on the school's campus put on by a separate entity. Therefore, he had a UT-Southwestern student ID, but was not enrolled.

Investigators said when Shehata returned to his vehicle, another car hit him and killed him. The vehicle that hit him did not stop and kept going. Witnesses told investigators it was a low profile dark-colored small car or SUV.

Detectives said the vehicle that hit Shehata has extensive damage to the right front and likely did not get far from the crash scene. Deputies canvassed the area, but did not locate the vehicle.
