Denton police say a juvenile is charged following an apparent hoax threat caused a lockdown at Denton Ryan High School last week.
On Feb. 4 officers responded to the school in the 5100 block of East McKinney Street after someone placed a 911 call stating a person with a gun had entered a classroom.
Police conducted a search of the building and determined there was no danger, and investigators said all indications pointed to the call being a hoax.
A criminal investigation was launched, and police located the owner of the phone, a female student at Ryan High School. Police were then able to locate a male student who was allegedly in possession of the phone at the time of the phone call.
Denton Independent School District officials initiated disciplinary steps with the male student, police said.
Police said they have charged a male juvenile with false alarm or report, a state jail felony.
We are aware that Ryan HS is under lock down. DPD officers on the scene.
