Denton Municipal Electric revealed their new Power Outage Map online Wednesday morning.
The map will display power outages reported throughout town to keep residents and the public up to date on situations.
Brian Daskam with DME said the new tool should prove especially useful during times of severe weather when communication with the public is very important.
"A lot of times when someone's experiencing a power outage, they just want to know: does someone know about this and are they working on it?” said Daskam. “So, this map lets them go and see without having to call in, without going through that phone process."
The map also provides contact information for residents to report an outage if it is not showing already.
Daskam said this is just the first version of the technology and they hope to improve it with more options and tools in the future.
The map can accessed via the web at the City of Denton website and works on mobile devices as well.
