The School for the Talented and Gifted and the School of Science and Engineering at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center ranked one and two on Newsweek's list of "America's Top Public High Schools."
TAG moved up from second in 2008 to the top of the list in 2009, while SEM moved from fourth to second.
"Public schools are ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors," according to Newsweek.
