A man is in critical condition after being shot by Dallas police officers Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers were called to the 11000 block of Joaquin Drive at about 3:20 p.m. after people reported seeing an armed man waving a gun at passersby.
Police said officers arrived and found a man holding a weapon. They said the officers gave loud, verbal commands for him to drop the weapon but that he instead pointed the gun at the officers.
Dallas police said the officers shot the man and then began providing first aid. The man, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police officials did not say Tuesday how many officers fired their weapons or how many times the man had been shot.
The incident occurred in the Casa View neighborhood near Centerville and Shiloh roads, not far from Casa View Elementary School and Casa View Park. Students in the Dallas ISD returned to school on Tuesday after winter break. The Dallas ISD said students were already out of school when the incident occurred, and it did not affect dismissal.
The Dallas Police Department has not identified the officers involved in the shooting. After a shooting, officers are typically placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the police department and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
