Dallas Mayor Addresses War Against Poverty

Poverty is an issue Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings wants to fix.

According to studies about a quarter of Dallas residents experience poverty. Rawling hopes to decrease this number and make progress in the war against poverty.

In response to the studies and concerns, more than 200 community leaders were invited to share their ideas on a poverty task force. Many ideas were brought up but one out of the many that stood out was boosting local wages.

Dallas City Council member Tennell Atkins said "our employment is up but the poverty level is still growing. So it takes the city, it takes the country, the state, everybody, to work with the city to get us out of this mess."
