Man Wanted in Fatal Shootings Arrested After Standoff
A man suspected in two fatal shootings in San Antonio was arrested hours after he locked himself inside a vehicle parked at a Shell gas station in southern Dallas County on Tuesday. Police had originally attempted to pull Alonzo Menoza, 31, over for speeding. A short chase ended in the parking lot. Dozens of officers surrounded the gas station near Pleasant Run Road and Interstate 35 while he reportedly held a gun to his head and talked on a cell phone. Menoza is suspected in the fatal shootings of a man and woman at a Dollar General Store, according WOIA-TV. Mendoza and the female victim shared the same address, according to a police report.
Armed Men Rob Mom, Daughter, Police Say
Four armed men broke into an apartment unit on Arroyo Avenue Wednesday morning and robbed a mother and daughter, Dallas police said. Police said the men, all dressed in jeans and black caps, took property from the home and then fled. There were no injuries reported.
Warrant Issued For Man Accused of Making Tall Tale
Bedford police have issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of lying about being knocked unconscious in a parking lot, the Star Telegram Reported. The 29-year-old man told police he was robbed, beaten and knocked unconscious as he left a restaurant near the 2300 block of Airport Freeway. Police said they later determined that the man had been at a strip club with friends in Fort Worth before he was robbed of a cell phone and wallet in east Fort Worth.
Denton Deputy Injured During Car Chase
A Denton County sheriff's deputy who was attempting to throw tire spikes during a car chase was injured Tuesday night, authorities said. Stacy West, 34, is accused of leading officers from Denton to Grayson and Cook counties before stopping and refusing to get out of his truck. A deputy who was trying to spike West's tires fell and broke his wrist as West swerved toward him, authorities said. West was arrested and taken to the Denton County Jail.
Jail Computer Glitches Hold Up Inmate Processing
Computer software problems are delaying the processing of inmates at the Dallas County Jail for the second day in a row, the Dallas Morning News reported. The problem stems from new servers installed over the weekend, which are unable to keep up with the demand placed on the system. The glitch means it's taking longer for inmates to be arraigned before a judge and to be released from jail. Previous problems with the Adult Information System has led to inmates being held weeks longer than necessary.
Officers Survey Reckless Drivers From Trains
Police are riding the rails in an attempt to stop crashes at train crossings. Officers from Arlington and Grand Prairie are hopping aboard Union Pacific trains so they can watch for motorists ignoring railroad signals and warnings. The officers can then radio nearby patrols who will ticket dangerous drivers.
