Contradictions in Man Accused of Posing as Lawyer

Further investigation has raised questions about much of what a man who is accused of impersonating an attorney in a courtroom said in a jailhouse interview Thursday.

Jeffrey Scott Partlow is being held in a Hunt County jail on charges of contempt of court and public intoxication.

Partlow said in the interview Thursday that he received his diploma as a paralegal in 1997 but did not want to disclose where he received his degree. But if he has a degree, it was earned while he was in prison.

Partlow spent eight years incarcerated in Kansas between 1991 and 1999. His name then was Jeffrey Russell, of Olathe, Kan.

He also said he never advertised to get clients while working as a legal advocate. But he has a Facebook page with his photo and the words "I PRACTICE LAW" stated beneath. The page also gives information about the Law Office of J. Scott Partlow.

Partlow said in the interview that he posed as an attorney only once -- the day he was arrested in a Hunt County courtroom after the judge called deputies in October to report an intoxicated attorney.

He said he may be where he is now because he was tired of managing alcoholism and all of his clients' problems.

"It's possible that maybe I was just trying to -- this was my way to get out, " Partlow said.
