Garland police canceled a chase Wednesday after the pursuit proved too dangerous.
A Garland officer attempted to stop the driver of a dark-colored SUV near First and Walnut streets because the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle seen at a home burglary and because the vehicle had no license plates.
Instead of stopping, the driver chose to run.
The driver led police on a chase onto LBJ Freeway and eventually on to U.S. 75. The driver exited Mockingbird Lane was driving so erratically, according to police, that it was determined to be too dangerous to continue the chase.
The driver was last seen turning south onto a side street off of Mockingbird Lane near the SMU campus.
Police said the vehicle was believed to be occupied by three Hispanic men in their early 20s who broke into a house on the 500-block of Worcester Lane. When the homeowner interrupted the would-be thieves, they made their escape.
A chase with people suspected of breaking into a business Tuesday night ultimately led to the death of one man who jumped out of the vehicle on the highway and was struck by a car when he ran into oncoming traffic while trying to elude police.
