Bridge hit by 18-wheeler in Irving

The MacArthur Blvd bridge over I-635 in Irving sustained damage after a tractor-trailer carrying a concrete block hit it during rush hour traffic Thursday.

A tractor-trailer carrying a large cement block hit the overpass on westbound Interstate 635 at North MacArthur Boulevard Thursday around 5 p.m., according to Irving Police.

No injuries have been reported.

The westbound lanes of 635 and N. MacArthur Blvd over 635 were closed until TxDOT could make an assessment, police initially said after the incident.

According to Irving Fire, the 18-wheeler struck the bridge which may have caused structural damage. Irving Fire reported the driver of the tractor-trailer to be OK.

By Friday morning, all lanes of I-635 and N. MacArthur Blvd. were reopened. The only remaining closure is the U-Turn lane from the Westbound 635 Service Road to the Eastbound 635 Service Road.

There is not an estimated timeline for when the remaining roadway will reopen, according to Irving police and fire departments.
