Armored Car Catches Fire on the President George Bush Turnpike

NBC 5 viewer Scott Birdsong shot video of an armored car on fire on the President George Bush Turnpike on Tuesday morning.

An armored car caught fire Tuesday morning, sending black smoke into the sky over the President George Bush Turnpike just before Holford Road in Garland.

The fire started in the engine and spread to the cabin of the Dunbar armor car, according to Merrill Balanciere, the spokesman for the Garland Fire Department.

The car was carrying money at the time, but the fire was put out before it reached the back of the vehicle, Balanciere said.

The money was transferred to another armor car after the fire was extinguished.
