A North Texas school district's $60 million high school football stadium is set to reopen for graduation after being closed due to significant structural defects.
Crews set up the graduation floor on the field on Tuesday at Allen Independent School Districtβs Eagle Stadium.
On Friday, 1,399 seniors will attend their graduation ceremony at the stadium.
The stadium was closed by the school district in February 2014, after a report released by the district revealed cracks and other structural flaws in several areas of the stadium, including the concourse, press box and south scoreboard.
Allen ISD says these repairs come at no cost to the taxpayer or the school district.
They brought in Nelson Forensics, an engineering consulting firm, to look over all of the problems on the concourse and throughout the stadium structure. Pogue Construction and PBK Architects then completed and paid for the repairs, which are aid to have exceeded $10 million. A final total is not yet available.
The contractor and architectural firm paying for the repairs say the cost to fix the stadium has exceeded $10 million. A final total is not yet available.
The companies have also reimbursed the district for engineering fees, which have surpassed $1.8 million, as well as costs incurred because of the stadium's closure and the resulting loss of revenue.
The stadium opened in 2012.
