AAA expects nearly 8.3 million Texans will travel over the upcoming end-of-the-year holidays.
The travel association on Wednesday announced the projection is 1.7 percent higher than last year.
The current holiday travel period begins Dec. 23 and runs through Jan. 3, 2016.
AAA experts say the anticipated increase in holiday travel is being driven by continued improvement in the labor market, rising incomes and gasoline prices lower than a year ago. Most Texans -- 7.6 million -- are expected to travel by automobile.
AAA nationally expects about 100.5 million people will travel for the holidays.
