Students at Dorothy Smith Pullen Elementary School in Rockwall are mourning the loss of a beloved music teacher who was killed in a car crash along with her husband Sunday night.
Laci Betterton, 25, and her husband, James, 23, were traveling west on State Highway 66 in Caddo Mills when their Dodge Neon was hit by a Dodge Dakota traveling east on the highway, according to the Department of Public Safety.
The driver of the Dodge Dakota was not injured.
There was slush and snow on the road, according to the DPS, and investigators are trying to determine if the road conditions played a role in the crash.
James Betterton, also a teacher, taught music at Freeman Elementary in Garland.
The Rockwall Independent School District said that Laci Betterton, as the school's music teacher, had contact with every student on campus.
The district had extra counselors at the school Monday.
