Aledo School Gets Ready for Cowtown 5K

One elementary school in the Aledo ISD is looking to continue making their mark in the Cowtown 5K run next month in Fort Worth. Students are not only running for their health, but now it's becoming a tradition that’s lasted over a decade.

“Let’s get warmed up, let’s stretch and get ready to go, ok,” Anna Falcon announces to a group of eager third and fourth graders inside Stuard Elementary School’s gymnasium.

Falcon is a physical education teacher at the school and she is preparing the kids for The Cowtown 5K that is just a month away.

“It’s very cool,” says Falcon. “We are a very special and unique group.”

Stuard Elementary has had more kids finish the Cowtown 5K than any other school for each of the past 10 years.

“We may have the record,” said Falcon. “I know our principal is very proud of that too.”

Just walk through the halls of Stuard and you'll see all the trophies to prove it.

“We either had to buy a bigger cabinet or shift the trophies around and we decide to shift the trophies around,” said Stuard Elementary principal Ron Shelton.

This year, about 300 students from Stuard will run in the race. In addition to that, some of their parents will participate too, equaling to about 600 people from Stuard joining the Cowtown race.

“Anything that’s running or jogging I’m in for it,” said sever-year-old Lawson Merworth.

“We just want to promote a healthy lifestyle for our kids and that starts at the youngest age,” said Shelton.
