2 Years Later: Hunt for Missy Bevers' Killer Continues

The family of murdered mother and fitness instructor Missy Bevers are speaking out two years after her death as investigators continue to look for answers in the case.

The family of murdered mother and fitness instructor Missy Bevers are speaking out two years after her death as investigators continue to look for answers in the case.

Brandon Bevers, who's remained relatively quiet since his wife's death, says he was sitting down to humanize Missy.

Missy was killed on April 18, 2016 when she arrived at Creekside Church in Midlothian to teach an early-morning fitness class.

Bevers said he was out of town in Biloxi, Mississippi on a fishing trip when he got a call from a friend in Missy's class saying there'd been an accident.

"They said that 'She's no longer with us.' They said that there's been a robbery. They were just taking things at face value," said Bevers.

Bevers said he had an eight hour drive to start questioning what had happened before he was questioned.

"I didn't feel like a suspect until maybe three days into this. You know, once I got home there was about a day there of just picking up the broken pieces until I finally made it to the station. And you could tell that that the investigators were trying to assess how this had come to being. And you know, I naturally expected to be asked questions. And I was very matter of fact about it,” said Bevers.

But while several people were questioned, no one’s considered a suspect. Police have not offered any theories into why Bevers was killed.

Surveillance video from inside the church showed a person wearing makeshift tactical gear before Bevers was killed. Police say they’ve received tips from all over the world about who the person behind the mask might be, but so far none have paid off.

“Seven days into this I thought that the person would be apprehended. And I never imagined it taking this long. I have faith that this will be solved, and the person will be apprehended. I just don't know when. But the longer it goes on, the harder it is,” said Bevers.

In addition to not having a suspect, there’s no known motive for the murder although there’s been speculation in case that caught national attention.

"There has not been an accurate picture with this from the beginning. And we have to take into account that Missy could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. So any assumptions that's ever been made up to this point could be completely invalid,” said Bevers.

Instead Bevers hopes to change the portrayal of what happened by memorializing the mother of his children, saying she put her own interests and aspirations on the backburner to focus on her family. It’s a sentiment echoed by the couple’s three daughters.

“What I remember most about my mom is how much she cared for all of us and how much she always tried her hardest to do everything for us and meet all of our needs… She was probably the biggest role model that anybody could ever have,” said 17-year-old Hannah.

Multiple law enforcement agencies, including local police, the FBI and the Texas Rangers are investigating. Police just hope the critical information comes to light soon.

A $50,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
