A man police say was involved in a knife fight at a motel near AT&T Stadium early Wednesday was fatally shot by police.
According to the Arlington Police Department, officers were sent to a motel on the 900 block of North Collins Street at about 1 a.m. after someone called for help with a man reportedly banging on doors. Officers arrived about two minutes later and talked with a person in the office who said he'd heard the yelling.
As officers searched to find the source of the yelling, they found a room where someone was calling for help. Police said the officers identified themselves and asked for the door to be opened. When they continued hearing cries for help, they forced their way into the room.
Police said Wednesday the officers found two men inside the room, one who was armed with a knife and another who was bleeding and asking for help. Police said the officers told the man to drop the weapon and that when he refused, he was shot multiple times.

After the shooting, the apparent victim in the knife fight left the room, and officers began providing first aid to the man they shot. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office after his family is notified of his death.
The man injured in the fight was also hospitalized and was treated and released. No officers were injured during the incident, police said.
Investigators said Wednesday the two men did not know each other and that they believe the man who was hurt in the knife fight heard someone banging on doors and was confronted after he opened his door.

Arlington police said there are two ongoing investigations, including a criminal investigation into the knife attack and an administrative one into the use of force by police officers.
The officers have been put on routine administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing. Their names have not been released, but the department said the officers are both men; one has six years on the job, and the other has two.
Body camera video of the shooting is expected to be released after it's been reviewed internally, police said.
Officials said the man shot by police could be a suspect in a criminal mischief call from earlier in the day, but that has not yet been confirmed.
