Emergency crews were dispatched at about 4:30 p.m. to the 7500 block of East Lancaster Avenue, near Cooks Lane, where they said a pickup truck traveling westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking an SUV.
The SUV caught fire, and its lone occupant, a man whose identity has not been released, died at the scene, police said.
A female child in the back seat of the pickup truck was about to get out of the truck on her own, but the female driver was pinned and had to be extricated, police said. Both were transported to nearby hospitals in critical condition.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, and further details have not been released.
