In a statement from American Airlines spokesperson, Missy Latham, the airline giant says they have reached a tentative agreement in principle with the Transport Workers Union for the Fleet Service workgroup.
Approximately 10,600 employees would be affected by this agreement. Terms of the settlement weren't immediately disclosed.
This tentative deal comes after AA and the TWU reached agreements with the Maintenance Control Technician, Mechanic & Related, and Material Logistics Specialist workgroups. American has about 50,000 employees represented by unions.
The deal faces a ratification vote by the fleet service employees, who are represented by the Transport Workers Union.
American has tentative deals with other groups of ground workers. It is still negotiating with flight attendants and pilots. The attendants have asked federal mediators to give them permission to strike after a 30-day cooling-off period, but the officials haven't granted the union's request.
The airline is still in talks with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants. Talks between the two broke off last week where flight attendants are seeking to recoup some of the 33 percent pay cuts they accepted in 2003 when the airline was on the verge of bankruptcy. The airline said their latest offer included a signing bonus of 3 percent of a flight attendant's yearly salary and a 9.5 percent pay increase over four years.
