Self-professed NSA leaker Edward Snowden, who left Hong Kong Sunday, is heading to Ecuador to seek asylum, according to WikiLeaks, NBC News reported. Snowden was allowed to leave Hong Kong because the U.S. extradition request did not comply with the law, the Hong Kong government said in a statement. Although the statement didn't identify Snowden's destination, The South China Morning Post newspaper earlier reported that Snowden had left on a flight for Moscow. WikiLeaks said Snowden had requested the whistle-blowing group's "legal expertise and experience to ensure his safety" and the group's official Twitter account tweeted at about 9:20 a.m. EDT that Snowden had arrived in Moscow. NBC News could not independently confirm that he was in Russia. Later, Wikileaks said that Snowden would continue on to Ecuador. Snowden, who is a U.S. citizen, fled to Hong Kong earlier this month in an attempt to avoid prosecution. He has been charged with espionage. Sources familiar with the case told NBC News that Snowden's U.S. passport has been revoked.
