21 ONCE: The Dallas Observer Music Awards are taking that rite of passage where you turn a mid-size venue into a simulated house party. How? Well, the decor will be an awaited surprise, but lo-fi punk bands Bad Sports, Drink to Victory, The Lash Outs and Spector 45 will provide the fist-pumping living room jams on the ceremony's second stage reserved for Best Punk Act nominees. And we have an idea which resident near the Granada will take on the role of crotchety neighbor and issue noise complaints. RTB2, Telegraph Canyon, True Widow, Dem Southernfolkz, and Matthew and the Arrogant Sea play the main stage. 8PM, first come first served.
RULING THE WORLD: Coldplay led the British invasion at the Grammys this year, knocking out Song of the Year with the orchestral pop poetry of "Viva La Vida" among the three awards Chris Martin and company snagged. That's how we choose to remember the song, "Fantasia"-like in scope, after the iTunes commercials almost ruined it for us. The band's undeniable energy fills the Superpages.com center tonight with Amadou and Mariam opening. 7:30PM.
PINKED OUT: What brought cheerleading stunts to the "Today" show stage last summer and filled the V Spa at the Hilton Anatole with you-go-girl anthems last weekend? It's "Legally Blonde" the musical. The production, a more fitting vessel for the film's makeup-bag feminism (and Elle's hot-pink, costumey wardrobe), opens in Dallas today at Fair Park Music Hall and runs through August 2. 8PM.
