Uncle Julio's Wins Golden Local

The heated Golden Local debate over the Best Tex-Mex has come to an end with Uncle Julio's coming out on top with 61 percent of the votes on line.

Around Town correspondent Annie Potasznik presented the winner's certificate to Uncle Julio's president Todd Conger at the restaurant's original Lemmon Ave. location.

Conger thanked Uncle Julio's customers for 22 years of being loyal customers. "I guess if you want to compete with Uncle Julio's you better step up your game."

1590 people voted for Uncle Julio's and more than 600 left comments on the Golden Local.

The first Uncle Julio's opened in Dallas in 1986, and now has several North Texas locations.

You'll often find a line out the door as people wait for a table and sip on The Swirl, a frozen margarita swirled with homemade sangria.

On the menu you'll find not only the traditional tacos, enchiladas and tamales, but also ribs, quail, frog legs and jumbo shrimp. The décor is bright and cheery Hacienda style, and the food is fresh and delicious.

Congratulations to Uncle Julio's!
