If you're not familiar with Tasti D-Lite, the New York-based "frozen treat" chain made famous by Sex and The City and 30 Rock, allow us to fill you in. A father and daughter who were looking to create a dessert with fewer calories founded it in 1987, and it has since developed quite a cult following.
It's dubbed a "frozen treat" because technically, it's neither ice cream nor frozen yogurt. It's made from natural ingredients like real dairy and real sugar, and most flavors are kosher and gluten-free. Plus, it's super light—a cup is only 70 calories. Unlike any other Tasti D-Lite in existence, the Dallas locales—a total of 25 will open within the next decade—will be "hybrids." Each spot will feature the chain's signature custom blend station, plus a new self-service bar with eight flavors on tap daily.
In the clip above, husband and wife team Francisco and Patricia Gomez explain how they brought the chain's first self-serve concept to the Big D. Who do we have to thank? Facebook. Yep. [The Feast]
